Today, I would like to cover on accommodation. We all know that it’s not cheap here in Tokyo, but for me, I have a few recommendations. How cheap and good it is depends on your budget and preference. So here it is.

The following list are places which I have stayed in before. If you have any better preference, feel free to share in the comments section.

Located in Asakusa, it is a popular option for backpackers and students visiting Tokyo for holiday. It is nearby to popular Nakamise Shopping Street and Sensoji Temple with only 5 mins walk. If you want to relax, there is the nearby Sumida Park, which is about 12 mins walk. You can take a cruise down Sumidagawa river too. It is about one or two stops away from Tokyo Skytree, and also a couple of stops away from Akihabara too. A place to stay if you like to mix and socialize with travelers from around the world.

Hotel Hikari

Hotel Hikari

Room types: single room, twin room
Toilets and bathrooms: Shared
Notable facilities: Common bath, laundry facilities
Price: from 3700yen/pax

This hotel is geared more for businessmen and salarymen, but tourists have been known to stay here too. Located in the quiet town of Minami-Senju, it’s actually not really near to attractions in Tokyo. However, it’s in a very quiet part of Tokyo, which means you will have a peaceful night of sleep. No you won’t be sleeping on a bed however, it will be on a tatami mat (see below). Might sound uncomfortable, but I had the best sleep ever! You can get to Ueno easily via JR Joban Line, or to Akihabara and Asakusa via the Tsukuba Express. You will definitely need to learn Japanese as the staff here don’t really speak much English. There is a common bath on the ground floor. Showers are paid at 100 yen for 5 mins, but it’s best to experience the common bath instead.

Also located in Minami-senju, this hotel is geared more for foreign tourists across the world looking for cheap and good accommodation. The shared bathrooms not only has shower facilities, but also bathtubs as well. Great for many tourists who likes to soak themselves after a long day of walking around town. Sight-seeing assistance are always available at their frontdesk, though it is not 24-hours. If you come late at night, use the back door.

If you want to splurge and live right in the center of fashionable Shibuya, this is the place to be! Once you step out and cross the overhead bridge, you will be greeted by the famous Shibuya crossing. Located just behind Shibuya station, you will find your whole shopping paradise just right at your doorstep. Short walking distance to Shibuya Hikarie, Shibuya 109 and many great cafes, record stores, restaurants, it totally is the place to be. You would probably spend more time outside than in the hotel, but who cares! A short 15-minute walk to Harajuku, or 2-mins on the JR Yamanote Line, which is also a pluspoint as you can easily get anywhere around Tokyo easily. You can choose your breakfast from either a restaurant or the cafe inside the hotel, both are equally great. A hotel designed with style that geared towards giving the best for her guests.
